HSI Instructor Development Course (IDC)
Become an HSI CPR & First Aid Instructor! This comprehensive Instructor Development Course is designed to empower individuals to teach HSIโs fleet of emergency care programs. We don’t just teach you the curriculum; we teach you the art of instructional design, classroom management, and student engagement. Upon successful completion, candidates will be authorized to teach HSI programs, including CPR, AED, and First Aid for Level 1 or Level 2.

What You Will Learn:
- The HSI Philosophy: Understanding the “low-stress” learning environment.
- Instructional Techniques: Mastering the lead-in, video-guided practice, and hands-on skill coaching.
- Compliance: Managing rosters, certification cards, and reporting requirements.
- Testing & Evaluation: How to objectively assess student performance and provide constructive feedback.
Course Prerequisites:
Before attending the IDC, all candidates must meet the following criteria to ensure they are ready for instructor-level training:
- Current Provider Certification: You must hold a valid, non-expired HSI (or equivalent) provider-level certification in the training program the candidate wishes to teach.
- Minimum Age: Candidates must be at least 17 years of age.
- Skill Proficiency: You must demonstrate mastery of all skills taught in the student-level program.
- Completion of the HSI Instructor Online Course is required prior to the in-person course.
- Obtain the Instructor Guide(s) for the HSI training program the candidate wishes to teach. (The HSI-IG-CORE HSI Adult First Aid | CPR AED Instructor Guide -2020 is included with purchase. Steps to becoming certified:
Step 1: Complete the above prerequisites and book your in-person course with your Instructor. The in-person course takes 3.5 hours. Don’t forget to add the class to your calendar!
Step 2: Complete the HSI – CPR AED online course included with your registration at no extra cost. The online course takes 1.75 hours and can be completed at your convenience anytime before your skills session. You will receive your online course registration details by email within 24 hours after booking your skills session. You must complete the online portion to be admitted to your skills session.
Step 3: Attend and pass your in-person course and become certified!
