Learn how to handle medical emergencies when 911 is more than a quick call away.
Wilderness First Responder (WFR) provides the industry standard 70-hour certification for outdoor leaders & adventurers, wilderness guides & search & rescue.
This hybrid course combines 35 hours of self-paced online WFR training with 35 hours of in-person scenarios and hands-on skills practice led by a Survival Med-authorized instructor.
Course includes a two-year Wilderness First Responder certification that is accepted by the National Park Service, USDA Forest Service, National Assn for Search & Rescue, ACA/PaddleSports (American Canoe), mountain rescue teams, ski/beach patrol, SAR teams, local Sierra Club chapters, guide & expedition businesses & many others.
Also valid as NREMT Recert continuing education.
Current EMTs & paramedics can upgrade to a free W-EMT certification.
Important Course Information: This course is being held in conjunction with Captive Audiences SERE for Civilians June 4-8, 2026, in Fairfax County and Loudoun County, Virginia. Students will complete the Hands-on Portion of Survival Meds Wilderness First Responder and be trained in Wilderness Survival Methods, Basic Land Navigation, Urban Awareness and Surveillance Detection, Basic Lock Picking, and other related topics.
In-Person Schedule: June 5 – 7, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm.
Prerequisites: Students must complete the Survival Meds online Wilderness First Responder Course and be prepared to complete the Hands-On portion of Wilderness First Responder.
