Overview
Open water (OW) and swiftwater medical emergencies and rescues pose unique challenges for medical responders and search and rescue teams.
What You’ll Learn
- Identify the unique medical risks in open water and swiftwater rescues
- Assess the scene, evaluate risk, and balance rescuer safety with rapid patient stabilization, treatment, and transport
- Differentiate the effects of OW and swiftwater on trauma, entrapment, hypothermia, and other common outdoor injuries
