Course Description

Learn the crucial skills you need to respond effectively to severe bleeding emergencies until help arrives.

What You'll Learn

  • Recognize bleeding: Understand the types of bleeding (arterial, venous, capillary) and how to identify severe bleeding.
  • Apply direct pressure: Learn how to use cloths or bandages to apply pressure directly to the wound.
  • How to pack wounds with gauze to control severe bleeding, when direct pressure isn't enough
  • When and how to apply tourniquets to control severe arterial bleeding from limbs.
  • How to recognize and provide first aid for signs of potentially life-threatening shock
  • Practice techniques using realistic scenarios and manikins to gain confidence and skill in controlling bleeding

All students will receive a certificate of completion upon completing the course.

Linda Botens is a certified NYS EMT for over 20 years, a training officer for EMS, a NYS PECC Coordinator, a CME Coordinator, an EMS Charts Administrator, a certified AHA CPR/AED/First Aid, an ACS and DOD Stop the Bleed instructor, an instructor for the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for first aid and boat safety, and now a Survival Med Hybrid Wilderness First Aid Instructor.
