This course is offered by Brian Nielson.

Brian Nielson is a Nationally Registered Paramedic(NRP) with over 30 years of rural and urban experience. He has been teaching CPR and first aid since 1984, and wilderness first aid since 2000. He is certified to teach multiple levels of first aid through Survival Med, the Red Cross, Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI), and HSI.

He is also a US Navy veteran; Brian served as a hospital corpsman for 29 years, with 20 of those serving as the Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC) on submarines. He is an operations leader with his local search and rescue unit and is active in the local Medical Reserve Corps. Brian holds the distinction of being a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) through the Wilderness Medical Society (WMS).

Brian grew up in the upper Midwest and has a passion for the outdoors and wilderness medicine. He brings a real-world perspective to his classes, helping students connect learning with practical applications, allowing students to build their capability, capacity, and confidence in caring for an injured person.
